PADI PROGRESSIVE
SIDEMOUNT DIVER
The Path to Technical Mastery
Are you a certified sidemount diver looking to sharpen your edge? The PADI Progressive Sidemount Diver distinctive specialty is the bridge between recreational sidemount and the precision required for technical and overhead environments. Over two intensive days, we move beyond basic gear setup to transform you into a streamlined, self-sufficient underwater specialist.
Advanced Underwater Communication
In challenging environments, communication must be clear and efficient. This course teaches you to manage your environment without losing control.
-
One-Handed Signaling: Master the art of communicating while managing a primary guideline or carrying a torch .
-
Light & Torch Signals: Learn the language of light, using beam sweeps, circles, and flashes to communicate intent in low visibility or overhead spaces .
-
Touch Contact Protocols: Develop the skills to maintain team awareness and navigate safely through silt-outs or zero-visibility scenarios using tactile signals .
Precision Planning & Gas Management
Stop guessing and start calculating. We move away from "looking at the gauge" and into proactive dive management.
-
The Rule of Thirds: Apply technical planning principles for dives involving limited penetration or complex routes.
-
SAC Rate & Gas Calculations: Use your personal Surface Air Consumption (SAC) rate to estimate exact gas needs and create tailored dive plans.
-
Active Gas Balancing: Learn to manage two independent cylinders with precision, switching regulators at optimal intervals to maintain perfect balance and trim.
Realistic Scenario-Based Training
This is not a "follow the leader" course. You will be put to the test in real-world scenarios designed to build muscle memory and composure.
-
Day 1: Technical Foundations: Focus on perfecting horizontal trim, bungee tension, and mastering the back-kick and helicopter turn.
-
Day 2: Advanced Scenarios: Complete two distinct, high-level scenarios such as:
-
Scenario A: Progressive Penetration: Laying a primary guideline and navigating a confined overhead space while maintaining flawless buoyancy.
-
Scenario B: Problem Management: Dealing with simulated equipment failures, regulator free-flows, or silt-out exits using blackout masks.
-
